Easter Devotion 22

Matthew 12:40, For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

For three days, Christ lay in the grave. But after three days, He broke the chains of sin and death. And because of those three days, the Enemy was forever defeated, and we need never feel nor fear the sting of death. Such good news – after three days. But there is a huge difference between the beginning and the ending of those three days.

For those at the foot of the cross Friday was dark. Scripture says that when the people saw what happened, “struck their chests” and went away (Luke23:48). While we have the luxury of knowing what happened on Sunday, they could not see beyond Friday.

The people thought Friday was the end, but it was only the beginning. There will be Fridays, my friend. There will be dark days and sad times. We just need to remember that Sunday is coming. God is still at work. The story does not end here. Hold on until Resurrection Sunday.
